兩年前，因緣際會聽見李健唱的這首《今天是妳的生日，媽媽》，深深觸動了我的心弦，讓我想起了我的媽媽，和十幾年來漂泊在外的心境。今年初，研究所的一位好友搬到紐約，將他帶不走的吉他留給了我。
水藍藍的驕傲
轉眼間，中女百年校慶已經過了三個月。校慶表演結束後，儀隊的學姐妹們發表了許多激情澎湃、賺人熱淚的感言，而我則是活動隔天就飛回美國，轉身投入繁忙的工作，直到今天都還沒有好好沉澱、細細回味這段動人的旅程。

過節
今天下班後去攀岩，從攀岩場出來後，感覺四周陰沉的街道似乎比平日更加昏暗了。我抬頭仰望一片漆黑的夜空，猛然想起，再不到一個月就農曆新年，今夜多半是新月。突然之間，我的眼淚撲簌簌地從臉頰滑落，刮面的北風將我的淚水化作尖細的冰針，插在臉上，刺骨的寒冷。

2009 年 9 月 9 日，十八歲生日當天，我懷著躊躇滿志卻又忐忑不安的心情，離開了我的家鄉臺灣，來到位於埃文斯頓（Evanston, 芝加哥北部的郊區）的西北大學。當我第一次站在校園中，在密西根湖畔遠眺寶藍湖面上的點點風帆時，我的心中只盈滿了夢想成真的狂喜，對未來的期許卻依然模糊。當時我尚未意識到，我生命中最重要最難忘的四年，即將在這個鍾靈毓秀的校園中展開。
